South Derbyshire Sport, in partnership with Greenbank Leisure Centre (SLM) and Etwall Leisure Centre, held its fifth Annual Sports Awards Ceremony at The Pingle School, Swadlincote in September 2008. A full list of the 2008 winners and runners up are available here.

The event celebrated the successes of South Derbyshire sports performers at County level and above by awarding grants to support the costs of training and competing expenses. In addition to the sports grant allocations, the event also recognised the achievements other sports people in 14 categories including Sports Team of the Year, Sports Club of the Year, Community Coach of the Year and Veteran Sports person of the Year among others.

Hannah Barradell-Smith, the Sport and Youth Development Manager explains, “We want the people of South Derbyshire to be able to celebrate those committed individuals who make sport happen in our district. The Sports Awards recognise the dedicated work of those in sport including volunteers who work behind the scenes to facilitate sport participation and outstanding athletes who give up their time and energy to excel in their sport.”
